You are here

From May 28th to 31st , our members had their second annual meeting in Uashat, Québec. The event gives us the opportunity to have meaningful discussions and to learn about everyone's work and research interests in order to enhance the collaboration opportunities among our network. The meeting started with an opening ceremony lead by Antoine Grégoire, vice-chief of the Innu council Takuaikan Uashat mak Mani-Utenam and a welcoming conference from Réal McKenzie, former chief of the Innu nation of Matimekush-Lac John. Then, the MinErAL members made presentations that covered a wide range of topics: relations between mines and communities, consultation and consent processes, jobs and indigenous employment and challenges and issues of fly-In / fly-Out. Some free time on the last day allow us to visit the Cegep de Sept-Îles and to meet with indigenous student of the mineral technology program and to visit the Pointe-Noire Terminal, the most important centre for the shipment of iron ore in North America. Presentations are available here.
