The International Workshop "Orphan Mines" will be held from 18 to 21 September in Meknes, Morocco. This 4-day workshop will bring together stakeholders from academia, and from the public and private sectors to discuss issues related to the governance of orphan mines (rights, statutes, financing), environmental and societal impacts (ecosystems, societies, development), impact reduction and restoration of degraded sites and the reduction of impacts and uses of restored sites. A member of the MinErAL network, Pierre-Yves Le Meur, research director at the Institut de recherche pour le développement (UMR GRED), is among the speakers.The event is organized by the Moulay Ismail University of Meknes, the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and the AMEDEE network.
